That is a piece of paper and a pin that I have dreamed about for so long.
I am officially a Court of Masters Certified Sommelier!
And no one can ever take that away from me.
And you know what else?
It feels good.
Damn good.
After 5 months of 4 hour classes, 3 nights a week, I can honestly say it’s one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life.
Between attending class, studying, tasting lots and lots of wine, writing my wine column, and attempting to still be a good wife and mother, to say that I am exhausted is a drastic understatement.
But you know what?
I would do it all over again.
I learned so much more than I ever thought possible and am thirsty to learn even more. That’s the great thing about wine, there is always more to learn!
I am so excited to be back writing in this space: sharing my recipes, telling you about fantastic winery destinations and writing about wine. And when I say wine, I mean…
ALL THINGS WINE.

Congrats to you, Rachel! It’s not too much of a secret that I have Sommelier Dreams too! I recently joined a tasting group here in Chicago and am learning so much from those more knowledgeable and experienced than me. Best wishes on your continued studies and I hope you will be there to give me encouragement when I start along the Court path!

Congratulations on joining the sommelier’s guild! It’s an extra achievement when you are balancing study with raising a family. A friend of mine just received her certification so I’ve had a peek into what the process is like.
